A chic and classy Lady Gaga is a modern day Audrey Hepburn as she steps out in New York in black satin and diamonds

Elegant: Lady Gaga ditched her usual kooky attire for a chic black satin dress as she stepped out in New York last night



Her fans watch with baited breath every time she steps out to see what outlandish and kooky outfit she has decided to adorn that day.



So it's always nice to see Lady Gaga looking relatively normal, and last night proved that she can leave the crazy styles in the wardrobe for at least one night.



The singer looked like a modern day Audrey Hepburn as she stepped out in New York looking chic and elegant.





Sophisticated: The simple outfit was in sharp contrast to her usual kooky attire



Gaga, 25, wore a black satin dress that fitted her toned and curvy figure to perfection.



She teamed it with a matching cloak, towering black peep-toed heels and long black leather gloves.





Idol: Gaga looked as though she was channelling Audrey Hepburn from the hair to the jewellery



Her blonde hair - which showed off a hint of green highlights, was swept up high on top of her head and she was blinged up in diamond earrings, a matching necklace and ring.



Of course, there had to be one part of the outfit that screamed kooky and it turned out to be her large green-rimmed sunglasses.



Gaga sets the mould when it comes to original fashion and one person who recognises her style is legendary actress and singer Bette Midler.



Because although she slated the star for stealing her mermaid act this summer, Midler has offered Gaga first dibs on her wardrobe.

She is auctioning off her stage wardrobe which includes her famous Las Vegas mermaid outfit - which caused her to take to her Twitter page following Gaga's performance in Australia which Midler said she copied.

She wrote: 'Dear @ladygaga I've been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits, mermaid's mine.'



But she has had a change of heart and yesterday she insisted that Gaga can have 'whatever she wants' from the auction - including the mermaid costume.
