Kicking off the show: One Direction took to the stage to sing What Makes You Beautiful for Children in Need

Children In Need's marathon night of fun and fundraising was kicked off tonight with a performance by boy band One Direction.

Former X Factor stars Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson took to the stage to belt out What Makes You Beautiful.

They were introduced by Terry Wogan, who started the night off by also introducing his three fellow presenters Tess Daly, Alesha Dixon and Fearne Cotton.

It was hard to decide who was the most glamorous presenter as Tess, Alesha and Fearne all wowed the audience with gold frocks.

The BBC charity event raises money to go towards helping disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

One Direction were just the first taste of what's to come during the night though, as fellow singer Gary Barlow is to bring together a group of stars to perform the official Children in Need single.

JLS will also be performing their new single alongside a number of charity acts from television presenters and stars.

After One Direction performed their single, the cast of the West End show The Wizard of Oz performed a segment from their musical.

The acts and performances are split between clips of children who have been helped by the charity.
