Who would want to light his fire these days? Former sex symbol Val Kilmer has piled on the pounds

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Heavy set: Val Kilmer cut a cumbersome figure on at the Grammy Awards held at LA's Staples Centre

Despite a varied career with tenacious longevity, Val Kilmer will be forever associated with his breakthrough role in 1991's The Doors.
Kilmer, now 52 , played legendary rocker Jim Morrison in the beloved Oliver Stone film, and was key to its success with his eerie portrayal of the beautiful but doomed musician.
All lizard hips and leather trousers, Kilmer was as slinky as the star himself had been... and forever imprinted in our consciousness in that guise.

The Lizard King: Kilmer gave an eerily evocative performance as the legendary frontman in 1991's The Doors

But he was a far cry from that sinewy young man when he arrived at today's Grammy Awards.
The untamed mane was evocative of Jim, but Val has piled on the pounds and lost definition particularly around his neck.
He is, of course, years older than Morrison was when he died in Paris at the tender age of 27 from the result of a drug overdose.
Kilmer is nominated in the original In the Best Spoken Word Album category with his reading of The Mark Of Zorro.

What a change: Val has filled out other the years, though his hair remains untamed

Last year the actor contracted to sell his New Mexico ranch for an undisclosed amount. The 6,000-acre log-built house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms as well as several guest and staff houses.
The property also boasts an equestrian complex if the new owner has a love of horses and was most recently listed for $18.5million although it originally came on the market in 2009 for $33million, according to Huffington Post.
Kilmer once operated the Pecos River ranch as a bed and breakfast. It is the middle of beautiful wildlife where mountain lions, elk and deer freely roam.

After last night's VERY revealing party outfit, Kim Kardashian covers up for a trip to church

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Covered up: Kim Kardashian looks a little more demure as she accompanies her mother Kris Jenner to church in Los Angeles this morning

She showed off her famous curvy figure to maximum effect at last night's pre Grammy awards party in Beverly Hills.
But Kim Kardashian was a little more demurely dressed today as she accompanied her mother and a stepfather Bruce Jenner to church.
The 31-year-old reality star wore a brown patterned long sleeved wrap dress with a brown belt, providing a stark contrast to last night's ensemble.

Perfect pins: Kim's dress still rode up to the reality star's mid thigh

However, the dress was very short in length, coming up to Kim's thigh.
The star stepped out at music mogul Clive Davis's annual bash at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in a daring low cut royal blue dress with beaded detail.
She was spotted hobnobbing with the likes of Britney Spears and Jane Fonda at the bash, which went ahead despite the tragic death of Whitney Houston at the hotel just a few hours earlier.
Like many other famous faces at the party, held each year, Kim also tweeted her respects to the late star.
'Just heard the tragic news that Whitney Houston passed away,' she wrote.
'I pray for her daughter & loved ones. We will always love you Whitney...'

Spiritual trip out: Kim and Kris were joined by a family friend and Kim's stepfather Bruce Jenner

Kim's stepfather Bruce looked more low key in a striped blue T-shirt and beige trousers and looked quite sombre as he made his way into church.
The star was clearly affected by the news from yesterday, tweeting: 'Just love...that's all we have. Nothing else matters.'
She then added: 'Worked on my physical fitness today at the gym, then worked on my spiritual fitness at church. Feel good today!'

Spiritual: Kim tweeted today that she was today working on her physical fitness

Perhaps Kim also needed to seek spiritual guidance as she is in the midst of a divorce from estranged husband Kris Humphries.
Kim is said to have offered him a financial settlement in order to get their divorce completed as soon as possible.
But Kris is said to be adamant he doesn't want any money and is determined to pursue his claim to have the divorce granted on the grounds of fraud, arguing that he and Kim married under false pretences.

Curvy: Kim showed off her famous figure in the clingy dress which she teamed with chunky heeled sandals

Scarlet lady Nicki Minaj makes controversial Grammys entrance... arm-in-arm with the 'Pope'

By MARISSA CHARLES

Controversial: Rapper Nicki Minaj arrived on the Grammy Awards red carpet in Los Angeles last night in a scarlet red Versace creation

She is known for her outrageous outfits and tonight rapper Nicki Minaj did not disappoint.
The 29-year-old hip-hop star arrived at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles draped head-to-toe in a scarlet Versace creation designed especially for her.
And if anyone doubted what she was supposed to be dressed up as, the man who walked the red carpet with her offered a clue.

Dressed up: Minaj walked the red carpet with a man dressed up as the Pope

In a controversial move, the rapper arrived arm-in-arm with a man dressed up as the Pope. Wearing a blonde wig and sequinned gloves, Minaj looked like a cross-between Red Riding Hood and a nun in a blood red habit.
A woman's face appeared on the skirt of her dress. What seemed to be black pearls dotted the outline of the image.
According to insiders the dress is a reference to her upcoming song, Roman In Moscow.

Bold choice: The rapper has been tweeting about the Grammy Awards throughout the ceremony

Minaj's outfit was in stark contrast to the majority of celebrities, some of whom opted for a more subdued appearance given the recent death of Whitney Houston.
Singers such as Rihanna, Adele and Alicia Keys wore a sombre black.
Meanwhile, celebrities such as a Kathy Griffin and Carrie Underwood opted for a low-key white or cream.

Enjoying the show: Minaj sits in the audience while watching the Grammy Awards ceremony

Minaj was one of the many artists to take to Twitter yesterday upon hearing of the sudden death of the 48-year-old singer. The Super Bass rapper tweeted: 'Jesus Christ, not Whitney Houston. 'Greatest of all time.'

Pretty in pink: The rapper usually wears a cotton candy-type wig

Chris Brown shuns Grammys red carpet as he and Rihanna both perform at show... three years after THAT domestic violence incident

Reunited: Rihanna and Chris Brown were both at the Grammys three years after their domestic violence dispute

Three years ago, the pre-Grammys celebrations took a turn for the dramatic when Chris Brown was arrested after assaulting his then girlfriend Rihanna.
The Beautiful People singer has avoided music's biggest awards ceremony ever since, but tonight he made a comeback and performed at the star-studded event.
However despite his elaborate performance, the 22-year-old kept something of a low-profile and skipped the red carpet to head straight inside the venue.

Racy: Rihanna performed We Found Love before joining Coldplay to duet on Princess of China during the star-studded ceremony

Meanwhile his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, who is also performing at tonight's ceremony, dazzled in a very revealing gown as she worked the cameras before heading inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the event was taking place.
She was wearing a black dress by Armani that boasted a very daring low-cut and a thigh-skimming spit up one side.
Rihanna performed hit single We Found Love, before taking to the stage with Coldplay to duet with them for Princess of China.
Chris sang his tune Beautiful people, which features Benny Bennassi, and new single Turn Up The Music, for the audience.

Scene of the crime: The pair were both supposed to perform at the 2009 Grammys before Rihanna was attacked by then-boyfriend Chris

The 23-year-old is also nominated twice for best rap/song collaboration for another No.1 jam - the Drake-assisted What's My Name? - and for her guest appearance on Kanye West's All of the Lights.
Chris Brown scooped the award for best R&B album at the ceremony, making it his first Grammy win.
He is also nominated for his song Look at Me Now, which features Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, is nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

Duet: Rihanna took to the stage to perform Princess of China alongside Chris Martin of Coldplay

Collaboration: The audience were in for a treat when they saw Rihanna perform once more alongside Chris Martin, after singing We Found Love

Brown has been nominated for Grammys in five of the last six years, but tonight was his first time picking up the top prize in music.
And he did not attend the event last year despite being up for three awards.
A judge eased a restraining order last February after an attorney for Rihanna said she didn't object to removing the stay-away provisions.

Having fun: Rihanna seemed unfazed at the presence of her ex-boyfriend, who she used to have a retraining order against

Raunchy: Rihanna's on-stage ensemble was even more racy than the gown she wore to walk the red carpet

The former order required Brown to stay 50 yards away from 23-year-old Rihanna, but the restriction was reduced to 10 yards if they were at a music industry event.
Rihanna is the owner of four Grammys, three with Jay-Z.
She alone won a Grammy last year for her No. 1 smash, Only Girl (In the World) for best dance recording.

Elaborate: Chris Brown's Grammy performance saw him jumping up and down colourfully lit boxes

Nominated: Both Rihanna and Chris Brown are up for multiple awards at tonight's ceremony

Move over Carmen, Amanda Holden is back in force.
Within moments of her Britain's Got Talent return, she was joking that her new daughter has Simon Cowell's hair and she is hoping the Syco boss will invest in Hollie's future trust fund..
The music mogul couldn't hide his excitement as he greeted his teacher's pet with a giant teddy as she rejoined her co-judges at the Edinburgh auditions following the birth of her daughter Hollie Rose.

Back to work: Amanda got a royal reception in Edinburgh as she is greeted by her fellow judges and presenters Ant and Dec

The mother-of-two, looking radiant in an orange blouse and perfectly coiffed hair, beamed as Simon, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon, Declan Donnelly and Ant McPartlin welcomed her back. She said: 'It's going to take me a bit of time to warm up. I haven't really spoken in three weeks. 'The baby's got Simon's hair! I am looking forward to introducing Hollie to everyone on my next trip

Showtime: Amanda Holden returned to work at Britain's Got Talent today and looked great

Simon, 52, made no secret of having his favourite judge back, tweeting: 'Great to be back in Scotland @GotTalent, I'm back with my little @Amanda_Holden.'
He also threw her a surprise baby shower in the dressing room, where Ant and Dec gave her a toy dragon, Alesha and David presented her with a donkey - and Simon outdid them all with the bear.

Welcome back: The crowd and crew members were happy to see Amanda back at her day job

Amanda said she was 'euphoric' about her return to the judging panel yesterday and the crowd seemed to share her feeling, instantly erasing the memory of unpopular stand-in Carmen Electra.
The 40-year-old looked in great shape courtesy of some well chosen clothes and signed autographs for the crowd outside The Festival Theatre in Scotland.
It was the blonde bombshell's first public appearance since giving birth to her second child Hollie, which left her in intensive care and fighting for her life.
The queen of BGT was given a royal welcome back to the show and even got a bigger cheer from the audience than supremo Simon.

Not a replacement: The crowd were annoyed that Carmen was standing in for usual judge Amanda Holden

According to The Sun, audience members started chanting, 'Bring back Amanda!' in front of Carmen.
The chants were apparently so bad that the warm-up man Ian Royce had to urge the crowd to calm down and even warned people that they would be thrown out if they carried on.
A source told the Daily Mirror: 'There was a lot of really loud, angry noise directed at Carmen.
'It was getting difficult for the microphones to pick up what was going on between the judges and the acts. Carmen was clearly getting anxious about it, too.

Britain's first 'male mother': Man born a woman is first in UK to give birth despite having sex change

By FIONA MACRAE

New born: Thomas Beatie gave birth to his first child, Susan, in 2008

A British man is believed to have given birth, causing an ethical controversy.
The 'male mother' started life as a woman but underwent a sex change. He is thought to have had the baby last year, while living as a man.
Medical experts said that if the womb is not removed in sex change surgery, there is nothing to stop a woman who becomes a man from having a child.
But others said that the welfare of the baby is paramount and queried how the child will deal with even the simplest of issues, such as whether to call the man 'Mummy' or 'Daddy'.

Only a handful of 'male mothers' have given birth worldwide and this is believed to be the first case in Britain.
Details were revealed by Joanna Darrell of the Beaumont Society, which provides support to those have changed sex or would like to do so, a process also known as gender reassignment.
She said the man, in his thirties, inquired about the practicalities of having a -
