Meet the world's 'fattest man' who lives in London: 58-stone Keith is so huge he needs 18 carers to keep him alive

By TARA BRADY

Heavy: Keith Martin weighs in at 58-stone and is believed to be the world's fattest man

Weighing in at almost 60 stone, Keith Martin has not been able to leave his house in 10 years. With eight men and an extra large stretcher needed to move him, it's a job only a specialist team can tackle.
But supersize Keith is getting bigger, heavier, and wider and could now be the world's fattest man.

Larger than life: Specialist ambulance crews are called to care for Keith Martin who is too big to look after himself

The heavyweight, from Harlesden, north-west London, is believed to have taken the fattest man title from a 90-stone Mexican called Manuel Urbe, who has gone on a diet and is now a lighter 31st 6lbs.
But despite the accolade, life is a sad existence for Keith who has not had a girlfriend for 20 years.

Trimmed down: Manuel Uribe's weight has dropped from 90st to 31st after going on a diet

The 42-year-old, who began binge eating after his mother died when he was a teenager, cannot find clothes to fit him and is forced to lie in bed everyday.
'I blame myself. It was my fault, I hate what I have done to myself', the former warehouseman told the Daily Star Sunday.
'My mother died when I was 16 and I didn't care about anything after that and couldn't care less what happened to me, I ate anything and everything.'

Keith, who has admitted to eating a couple of roast dinners in a row, is cared for by his two sisters, an ambulance crew of eight, four carers and four nurses.
His story will be featured on a new Channel 5 documentary called Big Body Squad which begins later this month.

The programme follows specialist ambulance teams who take to the road in their £90,000 adapted ambulances designed to transport plus size people.
The larger than life emergency crews are stretched to the limit transporting morbidly obese people who are too big to look after themselves.
Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor, said: 'This is a very thought provoking series that presents hard facts and unearths some interesting findings. Obesity is on the increase in Britain and somebody has got to take the strain. Physically and financially.'
The Guinness World Records have invited Keith to get in contact so it can investigate whether his is officially the fattest man in the world.
Big Body Squad airs on Wednesday, February 22, at 8pm on Channel 5.

'It could have sparked a riot': Fergie furious after race row player refuses to shake his victim's hand and Ku Klux Klan masks given to fans

By IAN GALLAGHER

Tension: Uruguayan Suarez, left, avoids Evra's handshake offer as the racism row between the two sides refused to die down

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson called race-row Liverpool striker Luis Suarez a 'disgrace' yesterday after he refused to shake hands with one of his players.
Suarez came face-to-face with Patrice Evra at Old Trafford for the first time since his eight-match ban for racially abusing the United captain last October.
But instead of drawing a line under the row, Suarez pointedly bypassed Evra during the traditional pre-match handshakes in a snub Sir Alex said could have 'caused a riot'.

Reaction: Evra grabs Suarez's arm after his attempt to shake the striker's hand was refused

Looking as if he intended to confront Suarez, Evra found his path to the Uruguayan blocked by Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.
It was the cue for five minutes of pushing and shoving in a melee in the players' tunnel involving several members of both teams that eventually had to be broken up by police.
Evra had also celebrated the win after the final in enthusiastic fashion with a dejected-looking Suarez metres away.
Evra's teammate Rio Ferdinand, who refused to shake Suarez's hand before kick-off, had his say on his colleague's exuberant celebrations in front of the Liverpool man on the final whistle.

Snub: Evra, who had previously stated he would have been willing to shake Suarez's hand, is given the cold shoulder by the Liverpool striker

Ferdinand, 33, tweeted this morning: 'I'm sure Patrice Evra will feel that his celebrations at the end were maybe a bit much....emotions etc probably got the better of him...'
Sir Alex, 70, described Suarez as a 'disgrace to Liverpool' and said he should not be allowed to play for the club again.
'I couldn't believe it. He could've started a riot,' he added.
After the handshake brush-off, Evra, 30, tried to pull Suarez back by grabbing his arm, but the striker shrugged him off.

Anger: Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, walks off for half time during the match. He branded Suarez a 'disgrace'

Moving along the line of players, Suarez, 25, then came to the French defender's team-mate Rio Ferdinand. This time, he appeared happy to proffer his hand. But, clearly angry, Ferdinand kept his arms by his sides.
After the match, Sir Alex conceded that Evra's enthusiastic celebrations in front of Suarez after the final whistle were inappropriate. 'He shouldn't have done that,' he said. Shortly before kick-off, thousands of copies of a Manchester United fanzine were seized by police.

The edition of Red Issue included a spoof poster of a Ku Klux Klan hood along with the words 'LFC', shorthand for Liverpool Football Club, and 'Suarez is innocent'.
Match commander Chief Superintendent Mark Roberts said the fanzines were seized because 'we cannot be in a situation where hundreds or thousands of people were displaying offensive images'.

Meryl, 62, looked absolutely stunned as her name was read out at the Royal Opera House in London.
Wearing a low cut Vivienne Westwood dress which showed off her impressive cleavage, she took to the stage to accept her award.

She almost lost her shoe in the process but Colin Firth gallantly came to her assistance and put it back on her foot as she laughed and told the audience: 'That couldn't have gone worse!'
And she added: 'Somebody once said the fate of the well known is to be misunderstood. The ambition of this film was to look at the life of The Iron Lady form inside out and locate something real.
'Something that may be hidden but truthful in the life of someone that we have all decided we know something about already. I am very proud of the film. Half of me is Streep but half of me is Wilkinson from Lincolnshire so I come by this part honestly.'

Vive La France! The Artists director Michel Hazanavicius poses with one of the seven gongs the film walked away with tonight including Best Film while leading man Jean Dujardin clutched his Best Actor prize

He also accepted the award for Best Original Screenplay for the movie and he said: 'I am very surprised, because most people thought there was no script because there was no dialogue. So the British people are very clever.'

Minding his manners: John Hurt holds up his Outstanding Contribution to Cinema award and said his wife reminded him to say please and thank you

John Hurt was recognised for his fantastic career when he was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema award.
As he took to the podium, he made the audience laugh when he told them that his wife just told him to saying nothing more than 'thank you'.
He added: 'One of the difficult things about being given an award that you know are going to get is that you are expected to have had the time to write a speech.'

Legendary singer and film star Whitney Houston has died in her hotel room after a long battle with hard drugs and alcohol that blighted her career. She was 48.

After her death, the executive in charge of the awards issued a statement expressing sadness at the star's death.
'Six-time Grammy winner Whitney Houston was one of the world's greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades,' Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, said.
'Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs. A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice.'

Danni Minogue, left, Simon Cowell, Whitney Houston and Cheryl Cole, right, backstage on the X Factor. Whitney's performance raised concerns for her health with Cowell saying the warning signs were clear

At her peak in the 1980s and 90s, Houston was the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists.
She wowed audiences with effortless, powerful, and peerless vocals that were rooted in the black church but made palatable to the masses with a pop sheen.
Among her hits were How Will I Know, Saving All My Love for You and I Will Always Love You. She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.
Her success carried her beyond music to movies like The Bodyguard.
But by the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.
Her image became tarnished by her well-documented troubles, including her turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown.
By the end of her career, Houston became a stunning cautionary tale of the toll of drug use.

Relatives: In this January 1998 photo, singer Houston, left, celebrates her win at the American Music Awards with her mother, Cissy, and brother, Gary, in Los Angeles

Her album sales plummeted and the hits stopped coming; her once serene image was shattered by a wild demeanour and bizarre public appearances.
She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her once pristine voice became raspy and hoarse, unable to hit the high notes as she had during her prime.
'The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy,' Houston told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an infamous 2002 interview with then-husband Brown by her side.
However, she will be remembered not for the troubles she encountered in her last decade, but for her extraordinary voice and star charisma.
Houston was discovered by record label boss Clive Davis, who once said: 'The time that I first saw her singing in her mother's act in a club... it was such a stunning impact.
'To hear this young girl breathe such fire into this song. I mean, it really sent the proverbial tingles up my spine.'

With Ray J: Houston had another on-off relationship with the singer over the last few years

Before long, the rest of the country would feel it, too.
Houston made her album debut in 1985 with Whitney Houston, which sold millions and spawned hit after hit. Saving All My Love for You brought her her first Grammy, for best female pop vocal.
Another multiplatinum album, Whitney, came out in 1987 and included hits like Where Do Broken Hearts Go and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Her moving 1991 rendition of The Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl, amid the first Gulf War, set a new standard and once again reaffirmed her as America's sweetheart.
In 1992, she became a star in the acting world with The Bodyguard. Despite mixed reviews, the story of a singer (Houston) guarded by a former Secret Service agent (Kevin Costner) was an international success.

Child: Houston, pictured in 1965, was the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston, the cousin of 1960s pop diva Dionne Warwick and the goddaughter of Aretha Franklin

Duet: Houston sings with Jermaine Jackson during rehearsals for a TV performance in 1984

Odd friendship: Winfrey and Brown met with Israel's prime minister Ariel Sharon on a trip to the Middle Eastern country in 2003

But during these career and personal highs, Houston was using drugs.
She blamed her rocky marriage to Brown, which included a charge of domestic abuse against him in 1993. They divorced in 2007.
Houston would go to rehab twice before she would declare herself drug-free to Oprah Winfrey in 2010. But in the interim, there were missed concert dates, a stop at an airport due to drugs, and public meltdowns.
